If you have no score at all
Foundations · Lesson 4 of 22 · 3 min
About 1 in 10 adults in the U.S. has no credit file. That is called being credit invisible, and it is different from having a bad score. There is nothing negative to undo.
A score generally appears after one account has reported for about six months. One secured card, used lightly, is usually enough to start.
You can open a credit union account and many secured cards with an ITIN or a consular ID. You do not need a Social Security number for every product.
Takeaway
No score is a six-month problem, not a years-long one.
