Authorized user, and rent that counts

Being added as an authorized user on someone else's old, low-balance card can put their whole history on your report. You do not need to use or even hold the card. Only do this with someone who pays on time; their late payment becomes yours too.

Rent and utility reporting services add payments you already make to your report. Some landlords offer it free; paid services usually cost a few dollars a month and only report to one or two bureaus.
